When you’re talking about porn, the name Lexington Steele is infamous; everyone knows who he is! Whether you watch porn, or deny watching it (because let’s be honest here, everyone watches), we all know who Lex Steele is.
While I was in Las Vegas at the AVN Awards, I had the pleasure of sitting down with the one, the only, the legendary… Lexington Steele.
Being that Lex is a household name, my questions for this porn media mogul revolved around the business itself.
We started off the interview talking about sports, specifically football, for a good 15 minutes or so before we got down to my real questions for him. Lexington Steele is a New Jersey native and a New York Giants fan, so he and Mr. Sports Fan had lots to talk about since they have that in common.
Once we had the football and sports stats out of the way, I wanted to learn more about Lex and how he got started in the industry; specifically, I wanted to know how this kid from Morristown High School went from Morehouse College, to Syracuse University, to Wall St., to porn. That just seemed like an interesting, and unlikely, road to the top.
After spending two years at Morehouse college in Atlanta, Georgia as a finance major, Lex graduated from Syracuse University and was going to go to law school. Instead he worked as a broker on Wall Street for 5 1/2 years. During this time he also modeled on the side. In 1996, while still living in New York City, he started performing in adult films for Caesar Video. Wall St. broker and financial adviser by day, porn star by night.
“I went to a ‘freak party’ with a business associate. While we were there, there were gang bangs going on and I met some people in the industry.”
Up until this point, Lexington had done most of his work in magazines and print. But in April of 1997 he filmed his first scene. So, why the jump to porn full time?
“Quality of life. When you’re working 12-14 hours a day, who cares how much money you’re making when you’re slaving your life away?”
After a little over five years on Wall St., Lex packed it all up and moved to LA in March of 1998 and by 2000 he started directing. The first adult film he directed was Balls Deep, which was released in 2001.
Steele was AVN Male Performer of the Year in 2000, 2002 and 2003, and this is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to his awards and accomplishments. In 2003, Lex founded his own production company, Mercenary Motion Pictures, and he not only directs, but performs exclusively for his own company. But the multi-million dollar production company isn’t the only things Lex has going on. Steele has also appeared in episodes of Showtime’s Weeds, Nip/Tuck on FX and in the 2009 film Crank 2: High Voltage. In 2013 he joined the roster of directors for Evil Angel.
The fact the he has always been driven and been an entrepreneur is what has made, and keeps, the name Lexington Steele, on everyone’s lips.
